20 Gujarat Reservoirs Overflowing, 30 On High Alert As Heavy Rain Continues

At least 20 reservoirs in Gujarat are overflowing, and another 30 have been placed on high alert as incessant rainfall continues to push up water levels across the state, according to the latest figures. The average water storage in the state's 206 reservoirs has reached 52.09 per cent.

Of the 206 reservoirs, 29 are between 70 and 100 per cent full, while another 29 have storage levels between 50 and 70 per cent. Forty-six reservoirs are between 25 and 50 per cent full, while 82 have less than 25 per cent storage.

27,800 People Evacuated

Heavy rain over the past few days has forced authorities to evacuate 27,861 people from vulnerable areas.

Navsari accounted for the highest number of evacuations at 11,590, followed by Surat with 11,179 and Tapi with 1,567.

Roads Shut Across Gujarat

As of August 1, traffic movement has been suspended on 32 state highways, four national highways, 725 panchayat roads and 53 other roads due to waterlogging, flooding and damage caused by heavy rainfall.

Surat has reported the highest number of affected road links at 191, followed by Navsari with 178 and Valsad with 109.

The continuing disruption has also affected state transport services. A total of 42,936 trips have reportedly been cancelled, resulting in losses of around ₹15.45 lakh to the corporation.

Among the affected routes, 1,674 routes from Kheda and 1,097 from the Nadiad-Mehsana region have been closed.
