68-year-old Indian-origin businessman killed in targeted shooting in Canada’s Abbotsford

A 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman was shot dead on Monday morning in what police describe as a targeted attack in Abbotsford’s west end, according to reports.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department’s X account, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9.22 am in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive. Upon arrival, patrol units secured the area and found the victim inside a parked vehicle on the roadway, suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Despite the immediate efforts of first responders, the man succumbed to his wounds at the scene. In their tweet, police said that they have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities said the incident appeared to be isolated to the single vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.
The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit initially took charge of the investigation but later handed it over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). A significant police presence remained in the area throughout the day as officers canvassed for evidence and witnesses.
Police say the investigation is still in its early stages as they work to determine the motive behind the killing.
