The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Tuesday apprehended a woman allegedly involved in promoting terrorist sympathies. The arrested individual has been identified as Shama Parveen(30), originally from Jharkhand, currently residing with her brother, who works for a private firm, in the Hebbal area of Bengaluru.
Sources revealed that officers from the Gujarat ATS had been closely monitoring Shama’s activities after spotting posts on social media in which she appeared to sympathise with radical ideology and supported the Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) on social media platforms like Instagram.
Based on inputs from Gujarat’s intelligence wing, the Bengaluru police were alerted, leading to swift action.
Officials said that the arrest was made as part of ongoing efforts to curb radicalisation and pre-empt any security threat emanating from online platforms. Investigations are underway to ascertain the extent of her involvement and any possible links to larger terror networks.
Further details about the case are awaited, as the authorities continue to interrogate the accused to uncover any additional leads.
