IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani’s cryptic post on karmic justice rekindles Amreli letter row

BJP’s former minister and Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) Chairman Dileep Sanghani posted a cryptic tweet on X, which read, “દિકરીના નિહાપા..... લાગ્યા !” pointing to karmic retribution for the wrongdoings suffered by a daughter, sparked debates on Monday.
People were quick to connect the dots, linking Sanghani’s tweet to the arrest and public humiliation of Payal Goti in Amreli last year after she was accused of typing an infamous letter.
The letter reportedly accused BJP MLA Kaushik Vekariya of misconduct.
Goti was arrested and publicly ‘paraded’ – a common practice by Gujarat Police, which then posts 'before' and 'after' clips of those arrested.
Notably, the court was later informed she had committed no offence. Later reports had indicated that she was merely following the instructions of a taluka panchayat president while typing the letter.
Sanghani, who had criticised the police and expressed sympathy for the victim then, had posted a cryptic message on social media on Monday.
Attempts to contact Sanghani regarding his post remain unanswered.
The post, widely interpreted as a reference to the same letter scandal, has reignited tensions within the BJP factions.
In political circles, speculation is rife that his comment reflects frustration among Saurashtra leaders — particularly from Rajkot and nearby districts — who were reportedly disappointed after being overlooked for ministerial positions in the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Under Sanghani’s tweet, one user replied, “As a blind devotee (andhbhakt), I was deeply pained, sir — the man who has married off thousands of poor and orphaned girls was sidelined, while the one who paraded a woman was promoted and made a minister.”
Commenting on the issue, Congress leader Pratap Dudhat said, “Perhaps Sanghani tweeted out of the pain caused by a past incident involving a girl, but today, countless sisters and daughters toil in the fields, and the fruits of their labor are being snatched away. Sanghani should instead join the struggle for farmers’ rights.”
This adds to a series of frustrated expressions by BJP leaders in Saurashtra. — once bound by the party’s strict code of discipline.
