US-British businessman James Murdoch has reportedly agreed to buy major parts of Vox Media in a deal worth more than $300 million (₹2,897.58 crore). It is stated that his company, Lupa Systems, is acquiring Vox.com, New York Magazine, and Vox Media’s podcast network.

These assets include well known publications such as The Cut, Vulture, and Intelligencer, which are part of New York Magazine. It is reportedly stated that Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff will join Lupa Systems after the deal and continue to manage the acquired brands.

The deal comes shortly after New York Magazine won a National Magazine Award for general excellence, which highlights its strong position in the media industry. According to reports, Vox Media’s podcast division is a key part of the deal because of its large audience and strong advertising value.

It is reportedly noted that Vox Media brands like The Verge, Eater, SB Nation, Popsugar, and The Dodo are not part of this deal. These remaining brands will become a separate independent company. The acquisition reflects James Murdoch’s interest in digital media and thoughtful journalism, as stated in earlier statements from Lupa Systems.

As per reports,  Murdoch has previously been involved in media and entertainment investments, including stakes in film and festival companies.

Murdoch has positioned this deal as part of building a media portfolio focused on culture and long form journalism. It is reportedly stated that Murdoch’s Lupa Systems has been actively expanding its presence in media and entertainment, and this deal is seen as part of a long-term strategy to invest in digital first journalism platforms.

The industry analysts view separation of Vox Media's assets as a major restructuring move, which could influence future media deals involving other digital news companies and podcast networks. The deal is expected to close in the coming weeks, as per reports.
